Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Nudge ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Nudge mobile application, our website at nudgedating.app, and any related services (the "Service"). The Service is operated by Nudge Dating LLC.
By using the Service you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information you provide
- Account details: email address and password.
- Profile information: first name, last name, birthdate, gender, who you're interested in, phone number, profile photo, and a 10-second profile video.
- Prompt selection: the personality prompt you chose for your video.
- Location: your approximate location (city, latitude, and longitude), captured via your device's GPS during signup. We use this to verify you are within our beta service area and to match you with nearby members. We do not display raw coordinates to other members.
- Communications: messages you send us (e.g., support emails), bug reports, and any optional screenshots you attach.
- Feedback and ratings: after each dinner, your private answers about whether you'd like to share numbers with each table-mate, your optional written feedback, and any reports of inappropriate behavior.
1.2 Information generated through use of the Service
- Activity: swipes, likes, mutual matches, dinner interest expressions, confirmations, cancellations, and dinner attendance.
- Reliability data: late cancellations, no-show reports from other members, and any related strikes or account restrictions.
- Device and technical data: device model, operating system version, app version, language, time zone, IP address, and a randomly generated device identifier we use for push notifications.
- Push tokens: when you enable notifications, we receive an Expo Push Token from your device that we use to deliver push messages.
- Logs: diagnostic logs needed to operate the Service and investigate problems.
1.3 Information from third parties
We currently do not purchase or import information from data brokers. If we use authentication providers (e.g., Apple Sign-In) in the future, we will receive limited account information from them at your direction.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Create your account and operate the Service;
- Verify eligibility (age 18+, beta service area);
- Show your profile to other members in the swipe feed and match you with compatible people;
- Coordinate dinners — including assigning tables, sending reminders, and managing cancellations;
- Process post-dinner ratings, share phone numbers when both members opt in, and operate the reporting system;
- Send transactional notifications (match found, table ready, dinner reminders, feedback requests, etc.);
- Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, harassment, or violations of our Terms;
- Debug, secure, and improve the Service;
- Communicate with you about the Service, including updates and important notices;
- Comply with applicable law and respond to legal process.
2.1 Legal bases (for users in the EU/UK/EEA)
We process your information on the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the Service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests — to operate, secure, and improve the Service, prevent abuse, and conduct internal analytics.
- Consent — for processing where consent is required (e.g., precise location, push notifications). You may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation — where required by law.
3. How We Share Your Information
3.1 With other Nudge members
Other members can see your first name, age (calculated from your birthdate), gender, approximate city, profile photo, profile video, and chosen prompt. After a dinner, your phone number is shared only with members you and they have both opted to share with via the post-dinner rating flow. Your last name, exact location coordinates, birthdate, email address, ratings, and feedback are never shown to other members.
3.2 With service providers
We share information with third parties that help us run the Service, under contracts that limit how they may use the data. These currently include:
- Supabase — database, authentication, file storage, and realtime infrastructure.
- Expo (Expo Application Services) — push notification delivery, app builds, and over-the-air updates.
- Apple and Google — app distribution and push transport (APNs / FCM).
- Cloudflare — domain, DNS, and website hosting.
- OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — reverse geocoding (turning coordinates into a city name) for administrative tooling only.
3.3 With law enforcement and to protect rights
We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to (a) comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; (b) enforce our Terms; (c) detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues; or (d) protect the rights, property, or safety of Nudge, our members, or the public.
3.4 In a business transfer
If Nudge is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to standard confidentiality protections.
3.5 What we do not do
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use your profile data to train external AI models.
4. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we need to retain limited data to (a) comply with legal obligations, (b) resolve disputes, or (c) enforce our Terms — for example, retaining a record that an account was banned to prevent re-registration.
Aggregate or de-identified data that can no longer reasonably identify you may be retained indefinitely.
5. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information — including encryption in transit, encryption at rest where supported by our providers, row-level security in our database, and limited access for our staff. No security system is perfect; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Your Rights
6.1 Everyone
From within the app you can:
- View and edit your profile information;
- Pause your account (hidden from the feed, no dinners) at any time;
- Delete your account permanently at any time from the Profile tab; and
- Manage notification permissions through your device settings.

6.2 California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and (if applicable) sell or share;
- Access a copy of your personal information;
- Correct inaccurate personal information;
- Delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions;
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information;
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell or share for cross-context behavioral advertising); and
- Be free from retaliation for exercising these rights.
To exercise these rights, email support@nudgedating.app with the subject "California Privacy Request" and include enough information for us to verify your identity. You may use an authorized agent.
6.3 EU / UK / EEA residents
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your personal information, and to object to certain processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
7. International Data Transfers
Nudge is operated from the United States, and our service providers may store and process information in the U.S. and other countries. By using the Service you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have different data-protection laws than your country of residence.
8. Children
Nudge is for adults. The Service is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please email support@nudgedating.app and we will delete it.
9. Push Notifications and Location
Push notifications. When you grant permission, we send notifications about matches, dinners, and other Service activity through your device's push system. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device settings.
Location. We request your precise location during signup to verify you are within the beta service area and to enable distance-based matching. You can revoke location permission in your device settings, but doing so may prevent you from completing signup or being matched.
10. Reporting and Investigations
When you submit a report about another member — through the in-app flag button, the post-dinner rating flow, or via email — we use that report to investigate and, where appropriate, take action. The reported member may be informed that we received a report, but we will not disclose your identity to them. Reports may be retained for as long as needed to manage member safety.
11. Account Deletion
To delete your account, open the Nudge app, go to the Profile tab, and tap "Delete Account." Deletion is permanent — your profile, video, photo, swipes, matches, dinners, ratings, and any number exchanges are removed from our active systems. Your email address may remain on file for a short period to prevent fraud and abuse. Limited records (e.g., that an account was deleted, audit logs) may be retained as required by law or to enforce our Terms.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email and update the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
